Acheson Construction Ltd, the Dorchester based construction company, has recently been awarded the contract to build Brooklyn House, comprising 11 luxury apartments in Bingham Avenue, Poole, Dorset. The site is situated on the edge of the Evening Hill Conservation Area, approximately 200 metres from Poole Harbour.
A forward-looking, innovative contractor Acheson has gained a reputation for blending modern methods and technology with old-fashioned principles of honesty, integrity and quality.
It has seized the opportunity with this project to develop residential property using Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs) from ICF Tech. The combination of two common building materials – expanded polystyrene and concrete – provides a quick, cost effective and practical building system which also offers huge advantages in energy saving, fire safety, thermal and acoustic performance.
ICFs have been used in the construction industry for more than 50 years mainly in the self-build markets particularly in the USA. Acheson is one of the first private contractors to take advantage of this next generation technology in the UK.
Managing Director, Robert Acheson said: “The advantage of using the ICF Tech system is that it is designed specifically for the UK market and has BBA approval so it meets all the Building Regulations, plus it is a supply and fit system incorporating everything you need to complete the structure.
“We pride ourselves on embracing innovations within the construction sector. This is certainly the way forward in developing new homes that have excellent eco credentials in terms of thermal efficiency, use of recycled materials, low U values and the ability to reduce the ongoing CO² emissions of buildings.”
